Default d15z1 head on jdm d15b block..

I am thinking of doing this for the gas mileage...from what i understand i will have a really high compression ratio but will anything need to be changed. I have a p06 ecu in a 92 cx. What timing belt and head gasket would need to be used on this setup? will the header and intake bolt up the same?

it's possible, it's going to be over 12:1 compression, so you have to run premium, which may monetarily negate any advantages gained by getting better mileage.

A good running d15b should be able to get 35mpg. What's your goal?

well i have a d15b block with a non vtec d16a head on it I get somwhere right around 40...i wanna be somewhere in the 55mpg range...will premium not help with gas mileage? or would it not be enough to make it worth it?

it depends on which D15B block you have. which pistons does it have?
is it the JDM D15B? which one? there are at least three different versions.

with the more common D15B block and that head you'll actually be in the high 12:1 range. which will demand premium and a serious tune.
higher compression requires more fuel, which produces more power. More fuel is not what you're going for.

If you want in the 50+mpg range, pick up an entire Z1 swap, use the P07 with the 5-wire O2. A properly running VX on the highway cruising at 55-60mph will have no problem getting you over 50mpg.

higher octane = more resistance to burn, so less mileage

thanks for the info guys...guess i will not be pickin up that head after all. Not interested in a complete z1 swap cuz i like to have at least the tiny bit of power i have now..what effect on gas mileage will I see if i do a mini-me swap. instead of the non vtec head i have now. My block says D15B with no numbers which i thought meant it was jdm and i was told when i bought it its jdm.?
