D15B7 mods
ok so im rather new into the honda scene.. and was i was thinking that since im on a rather limited budget maybe i could build my d15 motor.. head.. exaust. header.. throtle body.and maybe turbo runnin like 7 pounds.. with vtec. but what head would bolt onto d15 with vtec? is there one? and what mods would i need to do to the block i read somewhere to put a vtec head on a non vtec motor i need to tap something? am i wrong? and one last question. would it be possable to get 200 horsepower on this motor?

:-) Your future plans are my exact setup... D15B w t3 setup @ 7 PSI DD, 10 track. Im guessing Im around 200whp but havent dyno'd yet. I love the setup, and I can bet you will too. Much fun, good DD and got the power when you need it. :-)

Re: D15B7 mods (projekt-sol)
well im glad that it has been done.. but i have alot of questions that i dont know much about.. what sohc head has vtec? and where would i get one in good shape. what would need to be done to run vtec on it? my block has a spun rod bearing so i think i may just replaces all the lower end bearings. and i need to locate a 5 spd tranny for this with clutch pedals and everything to do a full tranny swap.
sorry didnt notice the mini me head swap.. i have heard some bad things about the mini me builds..correct any info that i may state thats wrong im like a sponge wanting to learn everything

Yeah c'mon man, somebody put a vette motor, trans, and rear axle into a civic, somebody else put an H22 into an integra's trunk (RWD), and there's a few 350ci swapped V8 civics running around - day of all sorts of swaps .

Well hondas are the easiest cars to work on - so if you have a "fair idea of how cars work" - then you pretty much know everything you need to know about a '92-'00 civic.
For 200whp you don't need to touch the block. It's definitely not worth getting it sent out to be built up - if you do that, then you're looking to make over 200whp, then you're not gonna do it on 7 psi, and if you're gonna use a D series, it might as well be a Z6 block.
So for now, put the Z6 head on it, it's pretty easy to do a "mini-me" swap - then get a turbo kit from any '92-'95 EX, and it should plug right up - or build your own, whatever, just build it for a '92-'95 EX, and everything'll be peachy.
Use the Z6 intake mani.
As for putting the VTEC head on, you can put a thicker head gasket on it to withstand more power as well as drop the comp a bit so it's not as hard on your engine when you're at full boost.
Here's a good how-to on putting a VTEC (Z6 to be exact) head on a B7 block.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=554053
Then when you get that on - and VTEC working and all - put a turbo on it.
EDIT:
PS: I wouldn't push that block much over 200 at the wheels.

thats exactly what i want to do . run 7-10 pounds of boost vtec z6 head z6 intake mani and header (still unsure of what one) and a full evo 2 exaust system. but i need to make it 5 spd instead of auto.. what tranny should i use for the mini me? SI? i would think i need longer gears to take full advantage of the turbo correct??
Well now im stuck editing my post but a Si will work fin runnin like 7 pounds of boost with all ther other mods i listed?? and thats exactly what i want is a fun toy as a DD and a Weekend toy.. just enough power to play around and still drive it daily..

Si tranny would be fine. Mine is running an Si (stock tranny) with the D15b swap, w t3 @ 7psi and run 13's all day long. Dont worry about being built untill you want to push more than 10PSI.. even then, if your wanting to have a true GO motor, your best bet would be to swap anyway. D15's boosted are fun DD's and weekend cars, but for something true track you'll want to upgrade.

Re: (93BoostedSi)
The best franken build though is the twin h22 twin turbo del sol.
When he finishes that think it's gonna be sick..
If no one caught on, it's one h22 turbo in the front, and one h22 turbo in the rear.
= *******.

[b]Har har har!! a t3 turbo on a d15b will run you mid 14s... I know this guy, good driver that has a d15b with a t3 turbo on 9psi and he's running a 14.1/2 at the drag strip

well im not looking for a fast track car.. if i wanted that i would throw a k seies motor in it then boost the hell out of that. im looking to build a fun weekend toy on a limited budget.. hints as to why i want to use the D15.. theres a local road course near by i may visit every now and then but thats all.. so SI tranny with a mini me Z6 head swap header and full evo 2 exaust and T3 turbo runnin 7 pounds will get me into the 200 hp range? without any major problems? ive never tore this motor apart other then fixing valve lash.. so i have no idea what kinda shape the pistons or block is in.. but thanks for all your help and links they have came in very helpfull

Re: (projekt-sol)
yea si tranny for sure, dx tranny would make u slower. i am sure there maybe a point in which u would have to much power and using a longer geared trans would be needed to make it drivable. but for what ur doing the si will be perfect
