d15b7 min me swap question
i want to swap my d15b7 head out for a d16y6 head. i know of everything i need. but how hard will it be and how much power would i gain..
if any one has the mini me swap stuff let me know i would be intrested in buying it.

It's very easy, and a quick 20ish hp... don't forget that Si trans... and don't forget to pull the oil jet from the block. And if you meant d16y8, swap the y8 cam gear for the one on your b7. Good luck yo!

Ok, the d16z6 is the 92-95 civic ex/si/ 93-95 delsol si motor, the d16y8 is the 96-98 civic ex motor, both of which are sohc vtec, you can use both heads. Whichever head you do use, I suggest getting an OEM Honda d16y8 head gasket, its thinner and bumps up the compression a little bit for a little bump in power. Go ahead and get the 92-95 civic si/ex manual trans for closer gearing, it is the shortest you can get. Whatever head you use also, grab a mt p28 ecu, that is the ecu for the d16z6

ok i red alot of write ups about it. i also understand about the longer tranmission. i want to leave mine tho. i also knew about the y8 head gasket because it metal and thinner and like you said it ups the compression. so bassicaly i can use any head as long as it is a d16 head.

to answer your question yes any d series head will work. y8 heads in the other hand do not like too much igniition timing and u would need to set your ignition timing to 12btc unlike the z6 at 16btc

yes 16btc.you will probably need to check it again once the swap is done. you mechanically time the motor like it was a z6 motor.

I'd be a little careful with the mini-me swaps. I just did one and I am having issues with low oil pressure. I don't know if it's due to the mini-me swap or something else. However I have heard of a few others that have had this problem as well so who knows.
If I had to do it over again I would of saved up a little and just bought a d16z6 motor or a b swap.

i ran into a problem w d15b7 with a d16z6 head the valves and piston doesnt clear =/ so hope when u put those two together they clear and turn i did it 3 times and same thing on all 3 setups... GL

dont put the motor all the way to tdc have it a few teeth back counter clockwize so when u turn it to time it you dont smack valves. make sure you time it with the crank pulley off to alight the bottom timing mark on the oil pump.

Got a question since I seen someone mentioned swapping out the cam gears if your using a Y8 head. Does this need to be done? Ive never read about it needing to be done before.
Im about to put a Y8 head on jdm D15 block. What cam gear will I need?

use the y8 cam gear and time it like a y8. people like to confuse this but changing the cam gear will make things way more difficult. if you used a z6 cam gear you would have to retard/or advance(i forget which) it 4.5 degrees because the key sets differently in both cams at tdc.

make sure the cam is setting at TDC before you mount it on the block. when u install the belt make sure all your slack in the belt is to the back of the motor so your tensioner can take it all out. i usually set the crank a tooth or so counter clockwise from the mark on the oil pump (do not let it go past it, if u need more take the belt off and set the crank back alil more from the mark on the oil pump until you have it rite when the belt is fully tight)so when u turn the crank to tighten the belt in the front the marks line up on the oil pump and the head should be timed when u put it on and ur good to go.

How would you remove it wrong? You just take it out.
So from reading a few posts on here, you all didn't timing your mini-me with everything at TDC? Thats what I did, everything was at TDC and it ran alright I just had that oil light problem.
