CTR cams in stock B16A - Do I use B16B or B16A torques?
Hi guys, so finally i fixed my overheating problem, guess what....radiator cap!!!!
Now im planning to put CTR cams on my stock B16A.
Which torques do i have to use? B16B or B16A torques?
I also have EK9 Spoon ECU along with these cams, so, can i expect a huge difference????
Thanks!

Re: CTR cams
Taking stock, the engine was good also improve admission, and the exhaust system. This together with the cams of CTR and electronic already going to do a good difference. So a piece, when you should place the springs of valve and the valve or CTR or ITR.

Re: CTR cams
you would use your engine tq specs. if you don't have them already, you need dual valve springs

Re: CTR cams
Im only planning to rev it to 8200rpm. Ill later put on some ITR dual springs.
Im also installing CTR throttle body, and 2.25 exhaust.
Along with these mods, can i expect huge difference from stock B16A?

Re: CTR cams
OP you will notice an increase in performance, B16 cams are junk compared to any other b series vtec cam. The CTR TB will give you a slight gain, it would be even greater if you had your IM portmatched to it. Overall i would say (on a dyno) a 10whp gain could be a decent claim.
You dont NEED ITR valvesprings, it just makes it slightly safer to spin above stock redline. Im running a B16 head and VS with 00 ITR cams and turn it to 8500 with no issues.

Re: CTR cams
the ITR/CTR cams are very close to what manufacturers sell as "stage 1" cams. Infact, my Crane Stg 1s are aside from the VTEC lobes. Generally, they list upgrading the springs as "recommended", but not required. What you're doing with the motor would dictate whether you should, or whether it'd be a good idea to throw them in for when you put nastier cams in.

Re: CTR cams
Indeed. I'm sure with all of the compression and decompression cycles and heat springs will probably weaken, but it would be interesting to see exactly what different springs will take. Like rev limit on what cams. It would be useful in picking springs so you can get something stiff enough, but not too stiff to cause unnecessary wear and drag.

Re: CTR cams
it should be safe as long as you dont miss shift like crazy or your not reving it to 9 grand so but then again you have your cams out and you plan on doing your headgasket why just get new valvesprings instead of having to do it twice will save you money and time

Re: CTR cams
to be honest buddy you won't need a mega strong valve train if you're only planning to run it up to 8200rpm for a honda thats nothing.
my old stock EK4 would rev to 8400rpm with no bothers.
also you said about using a spoon ecu. i have tried 2 one on my Ek4 with stock cams and one a mate had in his Uk eg vti and they both had rev limits above 9000rpm. although i did not go near 9000k with stock cams and valve train.
to get the full potential of the cams you'll be swapping you may aswell take it up to 8800rpm at least, with the mods you are listing you ain't gonna do any damage man. I take my EG6 SiR up to 9200rpm often thatsnot even the redline i daren't find it to be honest, it has Feels cams, and valvetrain and ecu, i can report no problems yet and they've been in there for over 20,000km's..and i still pull on DC2's..... its a honda what can i say....
fit the dual valve springs man if the head is coming off anyway might as well as down the line you know you're gonna want more power. don't lie to yourself you'll be back for more.......

Re: CTR cams
Thanks everybody!!!!
Ill be doing these upgrades during this week, there is a track day on saturday so ill be able to tell you how much difference there is.
Ive just installed Hawk HP Plus front pads, Goodridge brake lines along with Motul 5.1 brake fluid and it really makes THE difference!
Yes, i have this Spoon ECU. Im planning next month to change to CTR or ITR valve springs, and maybe Spoon head gasket. The only problem i have is that i really cant decide whether to buy Exedy flywheel, and also which exhaust manifold to buy. I can only find OBX and cheap stuff....would a 96 Spec ITR manifold be better than all those cheap ones?
Ill post some pics.

Re: CTR cams in stock B16A - Do I use B16B or B16A torques?
ahhh on the exhaust, its kinda of a hit and miss deal with the egay stuff. Iv had ebay headers i paid thirty bucks for, for quit some time now without any issues besides the gaskets keep burnin out. If u get a tri y or hyatech replica, i really dont think u can go wrong with that, iv been told by many people that they make exceptional power. Then run like a magnaflow muffler or something of that nature. That spoon ecu is trouble and i wouldnt use it, id find a reputable person to make me a base map and id get a wideband to make sure everything is peachy. If ur headgasket is fine than i wouldnt change it.

i hope you know with this mod, it only makes 3-4hp to the wheels, so don't get too excited, LOL
