I'm pretty sure that people have written that leaving it in gear will screw up your transmission.
I'm going to go through the same problems two months from now. I believe you can use a 19mm socket, an extension, breaker bar, jack stand, and an extremely long pole. The end of the extension would rest on the jack stand so you can apply gobs of torque with the breaker bar and long pole. Oh.. And you'll need to keep the pulley from spinning. You might be able to take off the flywheel cover and stick a screwdriver in the flywheel to keep it from spinning. If you do a search on the internet for 'civic crankshaft pulley' you'll come across a web site where it shows pictures of how to stop the thing from spinning.

how do you loosen the bolt???
Clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Nowmally, to loosen a bolt it you spin it counter clockwise. But on some cars, (Like BMW) main bolts on pulleys spin clockwise to loosen.

Thanks!

Yeah, but that tool is $70. I guess its worth it if you end up using it over and over again.

You turn it Counter Clockwise.

I used a chain wrench to hold the pulley down from moving and an impact socket connected to a breaker bar.

What kind of impact gun? Electric or air? How much torque does it put out?

impact wrenches work fine for me... 1/2 take a couple seconds usually...... 1" gun takes one hit of the gun and its off!

thank you to all who answered. I used an air gun last night but the compressor could only get up to 120 ft lbs and the chiltons manual says it is torqued down to over 250 ft lbs. Will try again and eat another bowl of wheaties
