crank pulley bolt help!!!
Im trying to take off my crank pulley bolt to change my timing belt and it INST coming off! I dont have the crank pulley tool, but I do have a strap wrench I am using on the crank pulley. My question is: Which way do I turn the crank pulley bolt to get it to loosen??? Im wondering if its reverse threads. Please help
No, it is a standard thread, turn it counterclockwise to remove. But they are very tight. I used the tool to hold the pulley and a 3/4" drive breaker bar. A lot of people are using 1/2" breaker bar and 3' of pipe over the handle and sometimes breaking the bar. Some people recommend jambing the ring gear on the flywheel, but I figured the tool at $60-75 is way cheaper than a new flywheel if I damage it. The ones I have done, a strap wrench is not strong enough. Maybe jambing the ring gear and using the strap wrench will be enough and not put too much load on the gear? Good luck
Well, I have tried about a 3 foot breaker bar, and an impact gun onm full and the damn crank pulley bolt wont budge. I have the piston locked, so that solves the tool problem. But that bolt just wont budge.
How the hell do you get it off????

what i do is get a old fan belt from a big v8 and wrap it around the crank pulley and put the other end of the belt around the motor mount. you wrap the belt around the pulley until it tucks between the pulley and the belt so when you turn the crank pulley it's tightening the belt and locks it in place.
stick a big close ended wrench between the flywheel teeth and the tranny casing. The bigger diameter of the flywheel makes it so there isn;t too much pressure on the teeth..I've done this several times

Does the flywheel trick work with aftermarket flywheels? When I get my new underdrive pulley, the bolt will have to come off... but I have an ACT Prolite and don't wanna F it up.
But yeah, every other time i've pulled the bolt with a stock flywheel, it works fine. Just jab it in there, and start pushin

it will work with aftermarket flywheels as long as the flywheel isn't made out of regular aluminum. it should be forged aluminum, billet or better yet: chromoloy steel.

Not too lazy, I was just waist deep in tryiong to change my timing belt, couldnt get the bolt of, and wondered if I was spinning it the wrong way. So I just ran inside and asked and got an immediate answer. It was a great help. I appreciate it. I got the bolt off finally, and got my timing belt changed by myself and saved myself some cash. Thank god for honda-tech, its a LIFESAVER. Sorry it was a repost, but it helped me tremendously. A repost isnt the end of the world. Just dont read it if you read it already.

Wow that was fuggen easy! First used a crappy electric impact wrench, no luck. Bought a 19mm impact socket and an 1 foot extension 1/2" drive for my 24" breaker bar. Put it in 5th gear, had one friend stand on the brakes. Me and my musclar Cuban friend pulled up on the breaker bar - POP, came right off. And thats how thats done! No air tools, No friggin pipes and nothing crazy like standing on the breaker bar.
Oh and those who are searching - for reference: it tightens and loosens like normal. Righty tighty, lefty loosey
