I decided to work on my 94 civic coupe yesterday (d16z6) since there was time. During this course
-the radiator core was changed
-ignition order was reset back the way it should be (the previous owner was an *******)
-and loosened the screw on the throttle body to help my idle.


now my car is overheating!!
at idle it stands fine.. but during acceleration it doesn't take long for it to go up
i have CEL codes 14 and 10



i tried searching but the others before me didn't have cel's so it made me unsure if it was a cel helping the temp go up or the new core

Code 14 is idle air control valve
Code 10 is the intake air temp sensor

i know what they are i just don't know much about them :/

Big air pocket? dumb question but sometimes people over look the obvious.. is there coolant in it?

i filled the radiator and overflow after i was finished so there shouldn't be any

but have you filled since then? it still could be low after it worked out the air pockets

start it and let it run a little bit without the radiator cap on, that way all the air pockets will exit through the radiator.

it had some left but i'll refill it

Sounds like you need to bleed the coolant. Take the radiator cap off, turn the heater control to full hot but leave the fan off so it's not blowing hot air into the cabin and start the car. Top off the radiator as needed. Try and let the cooling fan kick on once.

Thermostat begins to open at ~185*F.
Thermostat is fully open at ~196*F.
Radiator fan kicks on at ~203*F.
Water boils at 212*F.

Do not be alarmed if the coolant gets steamy or bubbles up enough to spill out of the radiator neck. Do yourself a favor and leave a funnel sticking out and it'll take care of that 'issue'. After that, shut it off, re-install radiator cap and you're done.

i did something similar

i idled my car with the cap off and filled the radiator it needed to be (as well as topping off my reservoir)

it seemed to be holding a MUCH lower temperature even after holding an rpm rev of 4k-5-

It could be the thermostat. More than likely it just needs more fluid. I had the same thing happen to me when I drained and refilled my radiator for the first time. What you should do is.... run the car with the heater on. let it set.. fill the radiator. repeate these steps till when u check the radiator its still full.
