I read most of the 112 topics about "idle" problems but none seemed exactly like mine. I have the typical loopy idle between 1000 and 1500 RPM but I also have an "air' noise that happens when the RMP's shoot back up. I also have the same noise with my CRX but that car has no problems . I only hear it when my CAI is on. It is higher pitches sucking noise. Related to problem? Oddly, this problem started shortly AFTER I cleaned off the throttle plate with carb cleaner. I'm going to clean off the IAC valve to see if that helps.

Check all your vacuum lines.

If its like a whistle, cleaning your throttle plate could have caused it. Now it has a sharper corner on it around the edge whereas before cleaning it was rounded due to buildup. Air flow is slightly more interupted at the edge of the plate and it might not be sealing as well when closed. The buildup of crud actually acts like a gasket sealing off the throttle plate but it also makes it sticky and eventually builds up too much causing more turbulence.

The sound is comming from a selinoid of some sort not from an air leak. Like I said, CRX has the same noise. almost like it's letting air in or something...I'm sure the odd idle is connected to this somehow....

I had an idle problem a while back. It might help lead you in the right direction. I would think the air noise is vacuum related somehow.

I printed that out...tomorrow I'll check it out to see if that helps.

why don't you spray carb cleaner around the engine/intake area and see if the idle goes up. If it does then you have an air leak. Just be careful not to start a fire. Always a good idea to have a fire extinguisher on hand.
