compatible engine harness
I saw something for sale and was wondering if what the person advertised is correct. He had a wiring harness for a 99-00 civic (d16y8) and he advertised that it could be used for an obd2 b16 swap. will that harness actually work and plug into all the connectors on the obd2 b16? Thanks for the help guys.

Re: compatible engine harness
my vehicle is a 99 Civic SI (ex in the US) so I have the D16Y8, but it will be getting an OBD2 B16 soon, and if this is true and I find a deal without the harness, I can use my harness. I would like to put a b18 in but I believe I have to modify the harness for that. the ones I saw for sale were on ebay and they said
D16Y8 engine harness will work with b16 swaps also modified to work with gsr swaps.
if I can use the D16y8 harness, what do I have to modify to make it work with an OBD2 GSR motor?

I'm a professed EG person. I like to post info that I KNOW to be true, so I cannot say with 100% certainty what to do here.
My thoughts are that I know you can use the D16Y8 harness on the B16A2 swap. What I can't say is that it will be 100% plug and play. Things like injectors, alternator, ckf sensor, IAT, oxygen sensors, etc. do all plug in without issue.
My only potential concerns would be (and this is just me thinking - they might be plug and play too) the IACV and distributor.
As far as it working with a B18 swap that would come down most importantly to what year the B18 swap was, and if it was USDM or JDM. B18 swaps can be done by utilizing the D16Y8 engine harness, but the level of rewiring will depend on the year/model of the B18 and which distributor/injectors etc. you are trying to use.

Re: compatible engine harness
the engine I may be buying (a very good deal) is a canadian market 98 gsr, but it has an obd1 head that is converted to plug into the obd2 harness (but he needs to keep his obd2 gsr harness. so, if it won't take alot of work to use my d16y8 harness, that could allow me to get a good deal on this motor. I am decent when it comes to electronics and wiring, so if its not anything majot its not a big deal. thatnks for the info.

Re: compatible engine harness
ok, this is what the ebay seller says. the harness is PnP with OBD2b only, the 96-98 harness he is selling is PnP with OBD2a only. he has also wired in the connection for the second butterfly valve for the b18. seems like quite a cool product to be selling, makes me want to do that with my harness. he is asking $200CAD plus shipping. seems well worth it (if you don't already have a d16y8 harness like I do). Thanks for the input though.

Re: compatible engine harness
IACV will plug in fine as long as its a 5 speed Y8 harness. Distributor wont (small plug distributor, you either have to make a hybrid distributor, cut and splice the distributor plug or use an adapter harness) CKF sensor I believe actually wont plug in, D-series IIRC is 3 wire and B-series is 2 wire, 3rd wire is just for shielding though, you can cut and splice plugs and make it work
