I've been asking around from other civic owners that i know and they've been having the same problems with thier window i have. I was just curious if anyone else had this problem. The actual glass comes out of the track. On the driver and pasenger side. Then i have to take off the door panel, undo the bolt at the bottom right of the door panel. Then try to get the track back onto the glass. I wonder if it's the actual black trim on the window, or if its the metal track in the door, i can't seem to fix the problem, what do you think? It'd be nice to be able to roll the window down, and not have to take the door panel off every time to roll it up lol.

common problem: yes!

fixable: yes.. what you should do is use a lithium grease on the tracks... it will help from binding up.. also.. make sure your window tracks are straight and snugly fitting the window...

i have done this at least 3 -5 times on every honda i have owned...

yes i have 6 civic's and 4 of them do that.and its not the track or the lining the track is keep in place with plastic rollers and ever one I've seen get wore out and pop out that's what makes the window go off track and the only plce you can get them is at honda

I've had 3 EF's and 2 EK's. Both my EK's had the problem (a '99 Si with power and a '96 CX with cranks) Never had any issues with the EF's though. I tried adjusting the tracks (with the bolts on the bottom) to snug them up, but it didn't seem to help much. Am I just not getting it right, or is there another place that needs adjustment?

I had that problem on my EM1, talked to a Honda dealer tech about it and it's pretty common. The regulator assembly in the door wears out too quickly and needs to be replaced. They have an updated assembly now that doesn't wear out as fast, plus they recommend using spray silicone lubricant on the tracks (they sell it at the dealer, or you can just buy a spray can of silicone lubricant at NAPA). I had the regulator replaced and spray the tracks every month, no more problems.

the regulator gets worn out (the metal tracks) and becomes loose which causes it to roll up uneven and pop off track. don't keep fooling with it and just get a new one. it won't get any better. its around $70 at the dealer. ive had to replace both sides in my 96. keep the rubber tracks lubed up, the dry rubber resistance on the window puts alotta stress on the regulator.

yeah.. I am all to familar with the process of fixing the window on my '97


it sucked one day, when I rolled the window down to gain entrence into my work parking lot, and the window popped off the track, and it was raining, and my tools to fix it were at home.

Had to drive it home in the rain to get the tools..
then I left a spare set of everything I needed in the car to fix the window, including lubricant!

I was too cheap and lazy to replace the regulator, then I sold the car.

Ya i work in sales, and i had to show up to a couple appointments soaked, because my windows wouldn't roll up and i didn't have tools to fix them. So your saying i need to replace the metal tracks and keep the rubber lubed up, with what kind of grease?

Honda recommends spray silicone lubricant, it goes on dry and is non-staining. I've been using it and it works well.
