Cold shifting
Hello everyone.. So I live in Miami where I go to college most of the time, but I just traveled up to Charlotte, NC to visit my folks for christmas. Before I left I changed my oil, tranny fluid, and flushed the radiator... whatever.
Now when I'm driving in the cold here (30-50 degrees or whatever), the car doesn't want to shift into third. 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th seem fine, but they all feel less smooth when I shift. 3rd just feels like a wall, I have to force it into the gear. Once the car heats up it gets a little bit better and I never had this problem in 80 degree Miami. I just have a stock 5 speed with my y7. Anyone know what's happening? Thanks!

Re: Cold shifting
well look at it like this... if it's not the clutch - it's the tranny.
ofcourse we don't want to think of the ramifications of a bad tranny - so it's gotta be a bad clutch. replace the clutch (if you've got the money) and if it's still fcuked up, check out the tranny.

Re: Cold shifting
It never just pops out of 3rd or any gear on its own.
Thanks for the advice! I'll start looking into clutches and see if I can pick one up after new years.

Re: Cold shifting
Does anyone have any recommendations for clutches to buy? OEM? I'm running a stock y7 with a few bolt ons, part of me doesn't want to spend very much because I might swap this summer or a little later down the line.

Re: Cold shifting
my ej had a problem with worn out shifter bushings causing me to have to force it into gear almost sounding like when you powershift. maybe look into these before you buy a new clutch?

Re: Cold shifting
now hold on guys you jump to huge conclusions. the last thing he did was change all his fluids right? well D griff do you make sure the car was level when u changed the fluid? what fluid did you use for the tranny? always start with the last thing that u did to your car b4 making big assumptions.

Re: Cold shifting
the problem is, you added North Carolina to your vehicle!!!
haha.
but seriously.
i have issues with my car shifting when its cold too. it still goes into gear tho, its just tougher.
what fluid did you put in your tranny?
as stated before, did you make sure the car was level when you filled it up?

Re: Cold shifting
its most likely not the clutch...if you "corksil" or whatever your name was knew what a clutch does then you would know this is not a clutch issue but either a tranny or maybe even worn bushing issue.

Re: Cold shifting
If your syncros are going out, wouldn't it shift easier if you match the RPMs of the engine to the speed you're going? Like say you shift at 3k RPMs and you let it drop to 2k for example, it should go in easily.
