Cold Air Whistles, Need help, annoying.
I have a Cold Air intake for my 97 DX (Cp products tubing w/ K&N Filter) I love the extra feel of the car and the sound but one. At about half throttle at a certian point it whistles pretty loud, now if I give it just a tad more throttle it will go away, but I could sit there and make it whistle all day if I wanted to. It's pretty annoying, how do I supress/eliminate the whistling?

tell me about it, it's the air pouring in the partial open throttle "whistling" past your butterfly
SOLUTION: z6 intake manifold

I don't know that there's anything you can actually do about it. All intakes I've ever heard do this, ESPECIALLY with a Skunk2 intake mani.

My Z6 didn't with the AEM CAI, but my new engine does with this crappy rytek intake I've got on it...
Question, do you guys have the line running between the valve cover and the intake, or the little filters? I had the line running with my AEM, but now I've got those filters on. I think it may have something to do with that...

Did you read all the other posts? It's from the air going by the partially open intake butterly. Has nothing to do with the tube coming off your valve cover dumping excess pressure back into your intake.

Yes I did read them, but I don't know for sure that's what it is... It's possible that there are other things which could whistle, though that explanation does sound very reasonable. I know that when I'm under the hood, and I open the throttle a little bit manually, I can hear the filter on the valve cover making noise, so I thought I may as well ask. And by asking that question I learned what that hole on the valve cover is for too, thanks.
I've also heard that it's from imperfections in the filter, but I didn't think that was right, since it's only at a certain throttle position. Seems like as long as there's air moving past it would whistle if that were the case.
Would it be possible to do a very slight grind and re-angle the butterfly? Sounds kinda strange, and it's probably too precision a piece, but I may as well ask. Plus the Molson Canadian is probably a small part of why it sounds like a reasonable idea as well, but since I don't know much about the exact function of the intake butterfly, I may as well ask and learn...

Re: (ShakesTheKlown)
I wouldnt bother trying to modify anything. I run a vacuum line from the breather vent to the intake pipe just like how it's setup with the stock box, dont really care for those "breathers" they dont do anything.

I also have a cold air intake on my d16z6 and it whistles and i've narrowed it down to being the air filter your useing.
I was using the cheapo ebay air filter and it didnt make this noise and then i replace it with a k&n and it now whistles.
K&N is better quality so i wouldnt get rid of it over something as stupid as whistling.

i think the butterfly theory is correct.. i have my factory DX air box in my EG w/b18.. its so restrictive that you can actually watch the box flex in when i pop the throttle.. anywaz.. when i just take the tube off of the air box so its strait with no filter... as soon as i hit like 4500 it starts to wistle... with NO filter.. i think i'm gunna put some pantyhoe's on there so i don't suck chunks

i had a CAi in mine and yes it was annoying as hell....i went back to the stock airbox with a 3" intake pipe.....runs fine...i dynoed with both and the CAI only made 1.5whp more then the airbox with 3" pipe ...so im sticking with teh OEM box!
