Default Intake tech?

obviously we've all learned that vtec engines benefit from the pipe being shorter but cold air is still the air source we want....

after seeing many intakes and alot od strang jdm intakes i was thinking...

i prolly bit this off of someone but ill ask the people of Honda-tech for their opinion

please post if this makes sense or if uve seen good results with a setup like this

I would have the air filter almost directly out of the TB(enclosed with heat wrap)and a tubing going to a cold air source or a ram air source to draww in cold air

anyone understand this....

cold air wouldnt draw up from the outside, because the intake mani is sucking on the filter... not the pipe going to the cold air.. unless you made a complete air tight seal... so itd be the same thing as a short ram.

but when air is going thru say when the car is moving it will get cold air on the filter right so thats better than having anopen filter inside the engine bay sucking in all that hot air....

but it will make no difference at which end of the pipe the filter is on..

actaully it will, what he's saying is to use a short ram intake to get the benefits of having the shorter tube for better throttle response and at the same time using a cold air ducting to push some cold air near the intake pipe....he is refering to something similar to the comptech setup, except only difference is the pipe wouldnt be connect to the filter just near it....problem w/ this setup would be, it would need a pretty much straight pipe to the filter...mostly unlikely because soon as you bend it the air will not flow because there is nothing to keep the air flowing...what you want is to setupsome sort of ram air...where the air coming up the hoodline would then be scooped into the area of the intake...and then to further increase the perfromance of the intake is to surrond the intake in a heat shield....put it almost in a cabin and have the only sorce of air being the ram air.....problem w/ this setup is youd need to be able to close it when it rains etc....or hydrolock...other problem is when the ram scoop is closed it be starving for air...how much all depends on how well you sealed you chamber around the filter...hope that helps you out a little

I see your point. But it won't work efficiently because the air going into your throttle body will be very turbulent and not have sufficient velocity resulting in your car bogging and other problems. If this idea was a benefit in any way...it would have been marketed already. But its good to see you are using your noggin!!!!

its a similiar design...

There is still sufficient room until the air reaches the throttlebody to become less turbulant in the IceBox design.

icebox works well because the tubing actually adds air flow velocity and the fact that it has a cold air outside source gives it the more dense air...so all in all its the best of both worlds
