Default code 22 (No Swap) (New Solinoid)

Ive got a 92 Si org motor 123k on it. Everything is plugged in and oil is full. Tried swapping the solinoid gasket and screen are new. The problem comes in a 3rd gear pull on the highway vtec crossover hits and cel comes on. Any ideas on this problem is appreciated.

Did you check to make sure that theres no breaks in the wiring for VTEC? Make sure the connector on the solinoid is connected good and such.

i was throwing the same code last night, check all your plugs, check oil level, turns out i had a small leak between the head and the solenoid, did you use hondabond when you put that solenoid on?

Does this only happen in 3rd gear? Has to be coincidental because a manual ECU doesn't know what gear you're in. Does the CEL just blink on or do you have to physically reset it?

Maybe it's just the speed you're going, and not really that fact that you're in 3rd. Try skipping 3rd gear and see what happens.

Ummm yes the ecu does know what gear you are in.

I have a chipped P28 and when datalogging it tells me exactly what gear I am in.

I had this same problem. When running a 1/4 I hit third gear and bam, CEL.
Try this because this was also a symptom

Get up to about 55 mph and make sure you are in 5th gear. Now slow down while leaving it in 5th gear. Don't push the clutch in or anything, just slow the car down in gear. Let me know if you get a CEL when you get down to around 10 or so MPH.

I didn't have a single oil leak on my motor. Had a dent in my oil pan and oil pickup tube was a little tweaked but all was decent.
Only other lead I had was that the ignitor coil in the dizzy could cause this.

I ended up selling the motor and never got around to finding the root cause. If I get the same thing on my new motor then I will swap the dizzy out for my GSR one to verify that.

Good luck and let us know if you figure it out.

Well, a Code 22 is a VTEC Pressure Switch problem, not the solenoid. You need to determine if the problem is electrical or mechanical. To check electrical, use a multimeter and check for continuity between the VTEC Pressue Switch wire (Blue with black stripe) and the ECU (Pin D6). Then use a test light or do a continuity check for the Black Wire at the VTEC Pressure Switch to Chasis ground. You need to verify it's got a good ground or you will get a CEL.

If that checks out OK, then the problem could be with the VTEC Pressure Switch itself (not super likely) or their could be debris blocking your oil supply passage. Maybe when you removed your old filter, a piece of rubber or other debris fell into the feed passage. You can remove the solenoid and visually inspect the passage on the head, solenoid housing, and the filter itself. Another option is to pickup a service manual and follow the troubleshooting guide. You can connect an oil pressure sensor to an aux port in the head and watch it when you go into VTEC. This will let you know if you've got enough oil pressure building.

Who knows, it could be something totally un-related. Could be a clogged/damaged oil pickup, clogged oil filter, weak oil pump (not likely). Something is allowing enough oil pressure to build to shut off you low oil idiot light, but not enough pressure to properly supply the engine with the pressure it needs. Being that this just happened after you changed the VTEC Solenoid filter, I'd say none of these are likely the problem.
