I am dealing with the same thing right now. It has something to do with the clutch bearing fork. It is allowing the throw out bearing to still touch the pressure plate very slightly and that is where the noise comes from. Does it work properly but just making noise while it is disengaged? I will let you know how it turns out for me cause this will ruin the pressure plate fingers.

o0o0o, i think i noe, i think its teh pressure plate, if you dont torque it down evenly it messes up those metal thingies on the pressure plate, and that would cause it to make noise, i had that problem on a customers car, got me paranoid that i messsed it up, but make sure u torque everything 80ft/lbs to the flywheel, 20 ft/lbs to the plate blah balh thats all

Default Tranny noise!!

This could be the input shaft bearing. However, usually this humming noise you talk about will usually only do so once you let go of the clutch. When the clutch is engaged, the sound goes away.

Did you line everything up correctly when you did the clutch?
Did you replace the release bearing and pilot bearing?

If you cannot figue it out, take your car to a tranny shop and get thier opinion, then say thanks and fix it yourself....provided that you know how and have to tools to fix it yourself.

yea, i believe that sound is normal right when you install a new clutch...i didn't install a race clutch, but i did install an exedy oe-standard clutch on my eg 3 weeks ago. my hood was up and when i started the car the first time, it made that noise the exact same way you described. but you said you had this for 2 months?? how many miles did you drive it so far? cuz once i put my hood down and started driving around, i didn't notice it anymore......

Got more info on the problem. Input shaft bearing is one and the guide bearing is the other. I am going to buy a new one and take off the old. Time to learn transmissions.

I'm kinda having this sort os problems too. Ever since I bashed my bellhousing against a raised manhole I've been suspecting that I've bent my flywheel. Now the starter teeth are acutally touching the flywheel teeth even after I release it from the start position. How could I tell if the flywheel bolts have backed off?

Nah, that wouldn't cause it. Are you sure you put the TOB on the clutch fork properly to where it pulls the TOB back when you are in gear?

just something to check out - I had a similar sound in my old 97 hatch - it was a swirling/rubbing/grinding sound that happened in all gears - but went away when I had the clutch pushed in (disengaged) - the problem was the main shaft bearing(s) had to be replaced - the shop owner told me they are a weak link in the transmission, especially if you drive/shift hard

EDIT - i think you are having problems with one of your bearings(main shaft, throwout, etc...) - get 'em checked out

I wouldn't pay one dime to those fools if you have paid to have the clutch installed. It's their job to install it properly...

If I install something for my customer, I'll make damn sure it works properly unless it's a hardware failure of the product that was not caused by my installation.
