Cleaning carbon buildup with pistons in engine?
Hey I just cleaned the carbon buildup off my pistons, while they were in the engine. I used acetone and a plastic scraper to remove most of it, although there is still a little left. I also cleaned the inside of the sleeves with acetone.
Im letting it sit 48hrs before starting it or anything. My question is this, do you think using acetone will cause any problems? Also, should i worry about carbon that might have fallen between the piston and sleeve? Im going to vacuum around each of them at TDC but just want to get some opinions on this.
Thanks

Re: Cleaning carbon buildup with pistons in engine? (turbotime)
You ask if its safe after you have used it? lol thats pretty smart.
Im not sure if it will cause any problem but I really doubt it will.
Next time use a product called Seafoam.

Just do a very thorough job when you go to clean all the carbon leftovers out of there. If they were to scratch your cylinder walls you'd probably lose alot of compression.
