Icon5 Civic has been out of commission for a few years. Emissions question.

I have a friend that has a 99' civic that has been out of commission for several years due to a blown motor. He's put in a new motor since then. So the question is, how does he drive the vehicle legally to put it in a ready state for emission testing? Tag needs renewal afterwards. Friend lives in Georgia.

If its already under his name he might just need to pass emissions and renewal fees for every year.

If its not in his name he will have to pay the ad valorem tax along with yearly fees for every year not registered.

It's in his name. How does he drive it legally to get it in a "ready state" so he can pass emissions?

Get it insured. You most likely have outdated tags. but as long as you have insurance and registration is in his name hes better than driving it unregistered or without insurance.

Yep, his tags out dated. I think he has it insured. I guess he could go try emissions and if it fails, he can drive it around until it's in a "Ready State"...If a cop pulls him over, then he can tell them the story and show the insurance and that he tried to get it to pass emissions.

Have him call his local DMV and ask. They will tell him exactly what to do. Straight from the source. No guessing.
majority of the time, get it insured, renew the tag, get it to where ever state does emissions. Then done.
As long as he have all the documents, I don't see why he need to worry about driving it on the road to get it renewed.

Wasn't sure if he could get temp tags or something that says he will be renewing the tags or some sort when a cop pulls him over.
