Cheap swaps
i want to swap out my sohc vtec motor in my 93 ex, but im not sure what i want to put in, i was thinking along the lines of an ls/vtec motor, but i think they can get pricy, and then i will still have to get a tranny, and ecu, so im not sure. Im most likey goin to turbo anything that makes it way into my car anyway so i want to have a good start, im not gonna run 20 pounds of boost or nething liek that, just 5-6 pounds of boost. Ive seen some cheap b16 swaps but they are cable so im not sure what to go with, i was thinking a turbo ls motor with a b16 tranny, but if i going to turbo the ls, why not vtec anyway?

Re: Cheap swaps (tfalconier)
Why dont you just turbo your SOHC VTEC?
5th Gen on here has a 93 EX Coupe stock internals w/ a greddy kit on 10 PSI running 13.6...how many stock B swaps do you know that can do that?

Re: Cheap swaps (tfalconier)
Why dont you keep the D16 and slap a turbo on that..... I just came from the Nissan community (240sx) and everyone was on SR20 nuts. Yet for the same amount of money, the KA24DE (stock motor)with turbo put down more to the wheels than the SR20 did to the crank. I was thinking on what swaps I can do for my Civic as well and I dont see many people turboing the D16Y5 (I see why but still) and that is the route I chose. If you are going to swap, there are too many choices. Set goals of what kind of numbers you want to put down first. Then look at what engines can get you there.

Re: Cheap swaps (specv5150)
Hell ya, go w/ the turbo~charged SOHC!! thats what im doing later. Who da hell needs vtec anyways?! its just over rated if u ask me. i have a '99 dx auto, i recently did the tranny swap to manual, ex intake mani swap. But if it weren't for me to go thru all that crap i would've been turbocharged and have fully built my internals. It's just the joy of seeing a sohc civic with NO VTEC spank a crappy *** b-series motor.
