Are you asking if a problem with the transmission will trigger the CEL to come on?

If so, what car, year, and engine do you have?

i have a b18c1 wit an si OBD2 ECU and GSR transmission i have a check engine light on and my trans. has been making some weird noises lately, i am just trying to get some idea of what is setting this off i am going to auto zone tom. to use the ECU scanner just trying to prepare myself for how much i'm going to be spending tom. to fix this prob.

What type of "sounds" are coming from the transmission? Bad clutch? Is it during shifting or while in gear or while in neutral?
A CEL code would definatly help. Not sure of anything off the top of my head right now. Too lazy to go get the Helm's manual right now.....

Best thing to do is find out what code the ECU is throwing, then, work from there. Other than that, troubleshoot your transmission like anything else that needs troubleshooting, start from the simplest and work your way up.
