If the check engine light is on, put the original ECU back in and take it to an auto parts store to read the code.

If I understand you correctly, if you rev the car in neutral, or if you take it to 5K rpm in a gear, it cuts out there, right? When this happens while you drive, does it buck the car back and forth? That would be a fuel cutoff.

I think the CEL has something to do with it.

should i just take both of the ecu's and have them read the code?

and yea it cuts off at 5k and yup it bucks back and forth so wat is a fuel cutoff? and keep this in mind i'm a noob so don't get mad lol

the cel only came on when i changed the ecu.

i also heard that there is like a chip in the ecu that makes the car cut off at a certain rpm. like it came stock so people don't race and all that crap. is that true? could it be that?

does it have vtec? if so, check your engine oil... If you're really low, they can really bog and mess up right when, or a little after it hits vtec.

My GSR is doing the exact same thing right now. When I get to about 5000 rpms It dies and the check engine light comes on. The code on my car is 15 ignition output signal. I am pretty sure that it is the ignition control module. I ordered a new one but it is not here yet. You should find out what code it is and that will help you narrow down the choices of what is wrong. This article tells you how to pull the code and what the codes mean- http://www.team-integra.net/se...ID=34

From what I've gathered, he doesnt have a cel...
Only when he swapped to a gsr ecu, which would throw a CEL since his engine doesnt have vtec.

what year is your car again?

You never did state whether or not it was an automatic or manual transmission either.
