CEL and idle up and down
my CEL is on and whenever i start the car up at first it idles real high. after it warms up it then revs up and down, repeatedly. the CEL is for a high draw on the electricity circuit it says. code p0563 i believe. can anybody point me to what would be causing this?
forgot to mention car is a 97 honda civic dx.

my first thought was timing because in drive it wants to move on its own. and at first start up it idles real high then goes to fluctuating but i will check the iacv and tps.

Re: CEL and idle up and down (stopspazinout)
can you do an experiment for me? turn on your A/C and see if the idle goes to normal. if it does I have the same exact problem. I have no idea where to start but I think this coming wknd I will be trying to clean out my IACV 1st....Good luck!

try bleeding air out of the cooling system as the EACV monitors the temperature of the coolant passing through it to control the idle and if there are any air gaps you will have problems...

Re: CEL and idle up and down (timtech)
not trying to thread jack (stopspazinout) but how do you bleed the cooling syst, timtech?
stopspazin: so no a/c... damn. I've only run into my issue on one other thread...
so you think you'll be cleaing out your IACV soon? If so post your results.

stopspazinout: it's actually easier than you think. I took mine off this wknd and sprayed the crap out of with some carb cleaner. I'll probably try putting it back on after work today. To take mine off I removed my throttle body. that made taking off the IACV 10x easier. Just a few blts and a couple screws.

so i cleaned my IACV last wknd and installed over this wknd and while the constant rev hi to low idle repeatedly has gone away now I have this annoying steady idle that surges ever so slightly but only for a half second. I covered the IACV hole in the TB about 80% and it idles smoothly. No idea what it could be. I'm guessing my IACV is bad. I also tried to bleed my collant which takes a very long time. I didn't finish bleeding though. I got sick of the idle sound. I did notice a significant amount of bubbles coming out however. I'll go at it again tomorrow with the coolant. Did you try anything new, stopspazinout? Just a note, when I turn on the A/C or Heat the idle evens out...
<update> So like i said I worked on it yesterday. I actually put in new spark plugs and the surge is gone but I have a HIGH idle. idle screw is closed all the way too. I think the IACV i either still dirty or i need a new one.

it idles high but once at operating temp shouldn't it drop down? My disty or my timing was never touched. Can one lose timing from one day to the next or from cleaning out an IACV? I was just going to clean the IACV one more time because to me it's staying open. The idle set screw is all the way closed. I also plan on re-bleeding my coolant. Honestly I don't think this has to do with my disty or timing. I may choose to look into it as a lat resport though. I still have to change the rotor & cap since I did do plugs. I almost want to take off my TPS but I'm affraid I won't be able to recalibrate it once I've clean it out and put it back on.

I've read carb & throttle cleaner as well as brake cleaner in several "CLEAN YOUR IACV" posts I've read.

Re: (UgP)
yes it ought to idle a lil higher until it warms up. id imagine if u cleaned the IACV out and its still not working properly its time to replace it ouch thats an expensive one there. and as far as the tps goes you dont need to worry about calibration or cleaning beacuse it works on the posistion of the throttle body. i e how far back the spring plate is. the only reason i said the timing is for the off chance that it was off and now that your IACV may be fixed your noticing a high timing. cause it should idle for a sec or two then drop.
do you have a tach in the car?

you dont have to buy a new one go to salvage yards and take a few off for hondas and acuras. i think there are only 2 types iacvs bring yours and compare, try to find one without all the carbon build up. i replaced mine with a unk yard one and i pulled my intake manifold/tb off cleaned with carb cleaner and brushes to remove all carbon build up hope this helps

Re: (UgP)
auto or manual. my other idea was to reset your warm idle speed since you said it was alll the way in. and then recheck everything else.
