hahaha, poor boy, the catalic converter is nothing but a pipe with a window-screen like mesh in it, so their is no possible way it can be broken if its not mechanical! the ticking you hear is the heat shield around the cat cooling down. its nothing to be alarmed of or anything. its ususal. and if it pisses you off, jack the car up andd take it off! easy peezy lemon squeezy.

How about your wrong. Catalytic converters DO break down over time. I wouldnt say it makes a ticking noise, but they WILL break down and start to lose their filling!

and catalytic converters will come apart. when it is running too lean it will overheat it and make it crack and make it come out the tail pipe. this is not uncommon.

try jacking up your car from the rear tow hook and start your car. then listen for where the noise is coming from exactly, it might just be a loose bolt (unlikely.) put on some gloves and feel around, hold the heat shield and muffler and see if the clicking stops. do a visual and check that nothing is knocking against the underside of your car.
