Cassette Player Console Replacement
Wow, it was hard to even word a title for this topic. What I am wondering is what are some of the options for replacing the stock cassette player in the lower part of my console. I've got a 97 DX, and I am thinking of updating the stereo, since the stock one is limited (only the remotely located cassette player no CD) and the stock speakers are sh...crap. Not going to do anything fancy, don't care about thumping bass, but even NPR sounds like a$$.
I am planning on putting the new HU in the upper position, and I want to delete the cassette player. What are other people putting there? I imagine you could get a open catch-all type bin (for lack of a better word), or some folks with fancier audio might put an EQ there. The cup holder cover pops up in front of that spot, so I am not interested in anything fancy or special. Just simple and clean.
Thanks for the input!

The cars without a cd slave / cassette slave have a pocket.
Honda Part # - 77299-S04-000ZA - RADIO POCKET - $11.32 (List)
Another option is to put your aftermarket HU down in that position (since it bolts in, and is harder to steal), and then put a block-off plate up top:
This requires two pieces -- the block-off plate and the 96-97 CX coin pocket:
Honda Part # - 77253-S01-A00ZA - POCKET ASSY., CENTER PANEL - $10.12 (List)
H.O.P. Radio Block Off Plate - $18.00

End result is something like how my car used to look:
