I know you need 4 things for the car to start: correct timing, fuel, compression and a spark. My 95 del sol has been giving me problems, with the starter, in recent months. Sometimes the car would start and sometimes I would have to hit the starter a few times to get in un-stuck. I just changed my oil and the car sat for about 3 or 4 days without use (thanksgiving weekend). Yesterday the battery was dead, so I charged it overnight. Today the car seemed fine until I tried to turn it over. I want to say it's either a spark or compression that I need, because after cranking for a few seconds the spark plugs were soaked in fuel.

If the starter is bad then the engine won't turn over, right?

every experience i have had with a bad starter, it would just click when i would try to start it. one time it just had dirty connections. Take it out and get it tested, its free.

That's what my starter did every now and then, it would do the click click nosie.
Does it matter if my next starter is nippondenso or mitsuba? Mitsuba is $23 on ebay and nippondenso is $35.

I got my car started yesterday by depressing the gas pedal while I started the car. It took a second but the car is running good again. Would that be caused by the cold weather and perhaps a stuck injector?

a stuck injector could foul up the plugs enough to a point where it wont start, sounds like the engine is flooding for some reason
