car is smoking , oil looking stuff in radiator , did search still unsure
ok
i got my car back from the shop and on the way home i over heated
i pulled over
let it cool down
and made it home ok (no trafic + drove fast = stayed cool
i get up the next day and take it to a local mechanic
10 feet before i get there
my car start smoking like a ****
under the hood and from the exhaust
now yesterday to me and my friends the smoke looked white
today it looks blue
but doesnt smell like burnt oil
i checked the radiator cap and it looked like it has some oily looking stuff in there
how can i be 100% certian its the head gasket
is there any way to be sure?

Re: (Caveman74)
here's an easy way my buddy's and i use to test leaks. if compression is low, pour about a teaspoon of oil in that cylinder and test it again, if the compression comes back up...your rings are bad, if it doesn't come back up or only a few psi's...your headgasket is bad.

you blew your head gasket most likely.
The compression test would only be effected by the head gasket if the head gasket blew around the cylinders.
It may have blew by an oil alley or a coolant alley.
If you oveheated and smoke poured out the exhaust and the engine, I wouldn't doubt it. You might have warped the head also. If you're pretty mechanical, should only take about an hour to pull the head

Re: (Emerika)
so it still may be the head gasket?
i was thinking my turbo seals are shot
im scared to pull the head and have to pay like 500 for the parts and labor
and find out its somthing else
i have no coolant in my oil
but a little in my radiator

Re: (redline201)
Sounds like you my friend have a bad head gasket or intake manifold gasket. Oil in the radator or milky looking oil means your mixing oil and anti freeze. And given you are running a turbo makes it all the more probably of the head gasket.
White smoke is a good indicator as well. It should smell sweet as well I don't recommend smelling it. Your car has become a large bug killer. Not really the shops fault if you hate issues before that you may not have known about without the excess heat. But it's a head gasket pretty dead on sure.

sounds like the headgasket to me. You have all the classic signs. Probally not the turbo as that won't cause coolant and oil to mix.
it sounds like you are hopeing it's a turbo seal over a head gasket? both cost almost the same to fix and the same amount of time.

Re: (R6Elmo)
blue smoke=burning oil
white smoke=burning water/coolant
black smoke=unburned fuel
yeah i wouldn't recommend smelling the exhuast fumes. although i used to do it. often u can detect the unmistakeable smell of burnt oil or even coolant (sweet smell).
