Default Car overheated........what now?

My car overheated today while I was on some local road....smoke was coming out under the hood, the rubber under the rad cap was malted. Refilled coolant, car was running fine. Went home and check everthing, spark plugs are fine, no burnt or anything....not losing any oil, and also no white smoke neither, so I don't think I blew the gasket. What could the possible damage be? What else could I check for? And what needs to be done other then flush the cooling system and change the oil? Did a search but can't really get a conculsion, any input would be great!! Thanks in advance!!

time to change the coollent and find out why y ou overheated. Your choices are a bad termostat, Cracked/ leaking radator, leaking hose, or the blown head gasket. i would start with the thermostat and work my way up,

how long are you waiting for the fan to kick on? for some reason when i have the car on idle, it seems to take forever for the fan to kick on.
