Ideally, the best motor available for your car performance wise would be a K series. And as a heads up it's 'VTEC' not 'v-tech'. It's an acronym; Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control.

Damn bro, it isn't too difficult.

He wants to know out of the motors listed, which are:
- D15B7
- JDM D15B
- D16Z6

Would be the best for him, performance wise.

I would say the Z6, but boosting a B7 is just as good. The internals of both blocks can take the same before you have to swap 'em out. VTEC isn't necessary, don't let any of the ricers lurking about this site tell you that it's like a turbo.

Keep your B7, boost it, and have a blast .

Though yes, the Z6 would probably be your best bet. According to statistics (which I'm sure some numb-nuts will post) the JDM D15B is rated at 5 more HP than the Z6, 3 more HP than the Y8. Though this is completely variable on the engine. Assumed the same chassis/mods in a race the outcome would be determined by the drivers. I don't think the JDM D15B is worth the $, so keep the B7 (is what I would do) or get a Z6.

Or if you REALLLLLY want VTEC just do a mini-me swap. Don't let anybody feed you any bullshit about mini-me swaps not being as reliable as a full Z6 or a full B7, that's a load. It's as reliable as you build it, you do a half *** job, it won't be reliable, do it right, and it'll last just as long. Slap a Z6 head on there, the mini-me swaps are hella easy and the only specialty tools you need are A) Feeler gauges (only if the valves are off spec), B) A torque wrench (yes I count this as a specialty tool), and C) An impact wrench if you can't get the crank pulley off if.

The valves will probably be in check and if you break the crank pulley bolt while the car's in gear on the ground then that eliminates C, so all you need is a torque wrench . Just remember if you do this to change the timing belt to a Z6 timing belt, the B7 is too big - and the water pump goes with that. Might as well change the head gasket and valve cover gasket while you're down there.

Mini-me your B7, keep the B7, or swap in a Z6 (depending on ur budget, I'd probably go for the mini-me) as Bauley coined the term paraphrased "it's basically bolting an extra 25hp onto your B7."

Hit me up by PM or on AIM if you have any more Q's as you seem to be getting more bashed here instead of more help. Don't fret about it - tech knowledge seems to become rarer and rarer every day here .

EDIT:
Well you still got 12 days before you can PM somebody, so hit me up on AIM or e-mail .

morning Synd

To OP

I think your choice in tranny is going to be just as important, for D series... S40 for turbo and S20 for NA. one of those motors has a thicker head gasket... i don't remember which.
Good luck

Edit: if you turbo then you don't want the D15B it has a higher compression, no good for turbo. play with this calculator for a bit and then decide what you want. remember low compression for turbos and high comp for NA.
