CAI quieter than a shortram?
Hi, well i've got a shortram on my car right now,
used to have the stock airbox(with a shortram arm running to it and a kn dropin of course) the car was quieter,
I'm thinking having the intake suck up cold air might net me some more power,
but would it quite things down some also?
thanx,

heh, that was quick,
a'aight then,
is it just the intakes noise(whistling) that's quieter,
or does it quiet down the engine in general?
thnx.

so the CAI is more high pitched then?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Its quieter, but it has a more audible whistling sound than a short ram.

I'll have to agree here. I have an Injen CAI on my a2.
At full throttle it's loud as ****, but I've heard Short Rams on other a2s... all I gotta say is... holy... crap.
I've had people tell me they heard me from a ways away. at half throttle I can hear a real high pitched whistling. Sounds pretty nice.

Re: (revolution8k)
well i'm only going to extend my current intake maybe 6inches or so..
so I can't imagine it'l make THAT much of a change.
but yeah I have heard some ppls cars that sound like they're boosted or some ****(but obviously arent).
It's wierd though, my buddys ITR has an AEM cai(and h/e) and you can't hear the whistling at all. his car is pretty loud too.
heres what I have currently,
basically I just want to move the filter down into the fender well. and it's pretty close already.

Re: (Tad)
looks nice
Actually, today I did the same thing your talking about doing...on my ek.
But...this is kinda a question to all .... i have i think a 3 inch short ram, and i expended it with another pipe, and a hose with some clamps. but the 'add on' pipe is like 1/4th and inch smaller or maybe a half an inch smaller than the 3 inch pipe i origanally used for the short ram. im asking....does that **** up flow, like restriction....? my butt dyno didn't detect any gains....maybe reduction if anything. maybe i should take it off till i get another equal matching pipe to extend with? TIA

Yea, like the other person said....the short ram sounded louder because it was closer to me? i mean it still has a sound....with me being lowered and my exaust, i already have a bunch of noise.....i cant really hear the wistle.
