Ok so i was rotating my tires yesterday and noticed that my d/s c/v boot had a little tear at the top and grease was all over . Obviously i need to replace it, but can someone tell me what happened? What can i expect to pay (it's a 00 civic si). Thx

I have the same problem. It's easyer to just replace the whole axle. It will cost from $50-100. I'm willing to bet yours are $60-70 each. Autozone carries them, good luck...

the best bet is to just replace the boot. i just did a new axle that cost me 69.00. and was a hug pain. or you can pay like 11 and just put the boot on. it will be much easyer to just do a boot. and it will cost you less.
actually it will not be easyer but will cost you less.

guys, go to autozone, and ask for a "speedi boot". this is a CV boot with a cut down the whole length, and then it closes with small skrews. so all you have to do is cut off the old boot, put in some lube which is included, put the new boot on, and bolt it shut. it is 15 dollars and has a lifetime warrenty.

Just repalce it. If u do the labor it should be around 40-50 bux for a rebuilt one at a axle shop. If they do the work I think they charge around 25 bux extra(depending the shop)

If you choose to do this you will also need to repack the joints with grease. Personaly i would rather replace the axle. I don't know how long mine was torn before i cought it so there could be dirt inside the joint and that's not good. This is why i'm replacing mine.

If the joint isn't "clicking" when you turn the wheels then I would buy a quick boot to repair it. If the joint is bad or near bad, just replace the axle completely - you'll thank yourself later.

No it's not "clicking" when i turn, i caught it yesterday and it could have only been like that for a most 2days. So i don't think i need a new axle, just to replace to boot. So i'm guessing i should expect somewhere around a $60 fix. Thanks guys

I had a shop replace mine. The toal price including parts and labor was $65.

youre going to have to take the axel off reguardless to repack the boot w/ greese, id suggest relacing the whole axle, b/c you dont know how long the boots been torn and you could have damaged the bearings pretty bad.

yah, I'm with everyone on this in that you should just replace the axle. This happened with both on my 5th gen Accord, and I replaced both sides. The Accord sucked though, because the axle nut was 36mm. Plus it was a 94, so everything was seized. broke a ratchet, the socket, and a breaker bar before we finally got a hold of a compressor and an impact gun. I'd assume your civic is 32mm. I don't know how yours is, but you may not have to remove uca's and lca's to do this, maybe just take the hub and lca off, and don't lose the cotter pin lol. And the passengers side leaked tranny fluid when we pulled the axle out, but not the drivers, so have a bucket handy just in case. Since you have an '00, I'd imagine you can do the axle in about 15 minutes. I paid $60 for my axle, with a $50 core charge. It's worth it just to do the whole thing, and not have to worry about clicks. And they should all have a lifetime waranty
