You can replace just the broken boot if you want, the only problem with that is more than likely after a couplw hundred miles the grease inside the boot will start leaking. the best thing to do is replace the whole axle. that way you can make sure nothing will leak and also you have brand new joint. with your boot being busted the grease will adventually all come out and that could do alot of damage to the old joint.

you could spend $10 on a boot and replace it yourself, which would require the axle to comeout of the vehicle (for best results). just make sure you get those bearings greased really well and use the whole pack of grease they send you.

you could spend $110 for axle and core from a parts store and just replace the whole unit by yourself and then get $45 back after returning the core.

or you could just pay the man $150.

difference between choice one and two id say is the amount of miles on the axle. if 100k or more id just buy the whole thing and not the boot. difference between 2 and 3 is your knowledge, ability and tools. my civic is a 32 mm axle nut, my gf tercel is a 30 mm, dunno about a teggy, id guess 32 mm also. its not that tough of a job. you might need some tranny fluid too.

If your positive the axle is still good, i.e not clicking or anything,
you can buy a "split" boot kit.

You can put it on without removing the axle.

If I was gonna go through the trouble of removing an axle, I would
replace the entire axle with a new one.

i do not recommend buying the quick boot. they cost like $30 (half the cost of an axle), are a pain in the *** to put on (the screwholes never line up and the clamp they give you are retarded), and they wear very quickly.

LOL Those split boots are the biggest pieces of crap I have seen in a long time.

If you have the original axles on the car, you can use a OEM replacement boot. But you will need a special tool to tighten the bands. I would deff replace the boot before I put on an aftermarket rebuilt axle.

why just buy the baloney when u can get the whole sandwich. for $150 you can get a new axle with boot. dont take the chance on just replacing the boot since the axle may be damaged.

Me 2.
And use honda axels, if you can. IE, If you can get them cheap.
I personally have had real bad luck with aftermarket axels on my hondas.

You can get rebuilt axles from autozone for $60-$80 after core exchange, or for around $110 brand new (each).

If the boot is torn/broken, that means dirt has already gotten inside the boot. The only way to properly repair it with a new boot is if you take the axle out, comepletely disassemble the joint (very messy), throughly clean every little piece inside the joint, put it back together, install the new boot and repack with grease. If you don't do that, the joint will go bad no matter what. IMHO it's worth the money to save the huge amount of hassle of trying to disassemble and reassemble the joint.
