building a Turbo B16
ok my dad and I are going to build a B16 and boost it at 12 pounds of boost. what i want to ask is what is the best pistions, rods, cam's, valve springs and retainers to buy for turboing. i know they make turbo rods and cams but what else is out there.

Re: building a Turbo B16 (lukerc45)
what are your power goals? if you do a search on this site, you'll find hundreds of different b16 builds, all which will help you out, but if your just looking for say 250 whp, then you don't have to do a build up on a b16. and stray away from saying "building to take 12 psi", 12 psi can achieve different hp goals on different types of builds, so its hard to gauge what parts you should buy if you just give a psi you want to push.

Re: building a Turbo B16 (99 Civic EX)
looking to build the motor so that it runs the best for a turbo setup. i want to get a really low compresion so that the motor can be turbo'ed like 12 or 14 pounds and have it a semi DD. my friend has it on his H22 accord and its been running 15 pounds of boost for 2 years and he drives it everyday.
i know i will be getting a block guard and want to get all turbo cam's pistions, rods, valves springs and retainers. thats what i can buy and have put into the motor just i want to know what ones i should get. for WHP goals 250 would be ok but im looking more for 300WHP-350WHP when im running on 12-14 pounds of boost and having the motor built.

Re: building a Turbo B16 (lukerc45)
well just from my own personal research and how i feel on the subject, i would stick with a compression of around 10:1 or somewhere in that range, going low as like 9:1 does help with tuning and detonation, but 10:1 compression will give you a little quicker spool up and it'll still be really safe to run on the street as a dd as long as its tuned properly. as for bottom end parts, i have no first hand experience, and as for the valvetrain components, i've heard skunk 2 is pretty good, and theres a bunch of other ones. i'd swap in some gsr cams, and just make sure to get a really good tune, thats what determines longevity and how well it'll drive as a dd.

I see that you live in Renton. I would recomend you go into Kent and talk to the guys at Intec racing. They know there stuff and will be more than happy to help.

you can make 300-350whp safely on a stock b16 if it's in good condition. if you want piece of mind just keep things simple.
eagle rods
pistons of your choice in 9-10:1
adequate fuel system
engine management
tuning
dont base your decisions off psi. psi means jack **** without knowing what size turbo. hp breaks stuff.
