building and EX
I have a 99 civic Ex and whats wondering if it would be stupid to bore it out and get new parts. I dont what to swap right now b/c i think building it up would be cheaper. Will i get good power or is it stupid to do?
Thanks for the advice.

Well...."bore it out and get new parts" is a little vague. What exactly are your plans for the car? What kind of racing do you do (drag, autox, track car)? I say decide exactly what the car's going to be used for, then decide from there. Also, do you want to stay all-motor, turbo, supercharged, a nitrous beast?
If you were to build it up and turbocharge, you'd definently make plenty of power with the D, but you wouldn't come out any cheaper than a swap, but you'd more than likely be faster.
Bottom line, IMO we would need more info before one could really anwser this question.

Re: building and EX (Green Ex)
My shortblock build up cost me about $1000 so far and all I need now is gaskets and get the block hot tanked and honed.
SRP 10.5:1 pistons .020 overbore and Eagle Rods include rings, wrist pins, etc $700
ACL Bearings $103
D16Y8 bare block $75
D16Y8 crank $50
Blockguard $100
Oh yeah and I'll have to pay to have the blockguard welded in. So all in all in will cost around $1300-1400 for my shortblock build. I'm going to run a 100 shot of nitrous on it. That's half the price of a swap so no it's not stupid.

Any time you want to make serious hp, you must upgrade the fuel system.

ttt= to the top. meaning someone posted and the thread moves to the top of the forum
autoX/ autocrossing is a type a racing around cones. i like road racing better because its racing on an actual track. not inbetween cones in a parking lot
