Icon2 95 civic ex -- need input on engine swap

i just bought a 1995 civic ex coupe....the motor that is in the car now blew driving it home and i mean blew...it has a half dollar sized hole in the block....it has a d16z6 and i dont know what motor to swap it with....i love building cars but ive always been around hot rods so dont no too much about which motor is best as far as price to power ratio...need suggestions.....would like to keep same harness and trans....dont like messing with wires. and the trans was just rebuilt and shifts perfectly

Have the head checked and maybe resurfaced, if it is in good condition you might want to consider just replacing the block, and of course any internals in the block that are un-usable, cause I bet most of the internals are still in good condition, probably just a rod that punched a hole in the block... Anyways that would be the best/easiest route in terms of cost and work as you wouldn't have to replace anything else

If you threw a con rod, just do yourself a favor and throw away the block and rotating assembly. You can keep the top end, assuming the engine didn't seize and snap a valve or something.

If you absolutely just want to swap the entire motor/transmission, you can either source a D16Z6 (stock replacement) or a second gen B16A, B16A3, B17A1, or B18B1. They're all OBD1 motors, and will be extremely straightforward swaps. Literally drop in motor, plug up sensors, plug in matching ECU, and go.

D16Z6. D15B7. That's it, as far as engines worth mentioning.

depending on where you live you can pick up a z6 bottom end or a whole motor in that case for pretty cheap
