On a budget.
I'm doing a budget engine swap for a buddy of mine, (he slung 2 rods). My question to you guys (being Honda people, me being a nissan person...) for 2000 to 2500 american dollars, the swap is going into a 98 civic, must be street legal, and I do intend to do some perfomance upgrades, what would be my best option. Spend a little more money on a b16 but be able to reuse the transmission, or spend a little less money on a b18 and need a transmission. Also is there any issues possibly with a jdm motor and a usjdm tranny (i know jdm is rhd and that makes some things different... at least in nissans.) I'm doing all the work my-self along with a friend so labor will not be factored in, I want to spend a sensible amount of money on engine/tranny so I will have room to move with some perfomance upgrades.

get a d16y8, build it and throw a turbo on, you'll be quick and it is relativly cheap
but really if you read the rules these kind of post are not allowed

$2000-$2500...D16Y8. That's about all you can afford. You could possibly get an H22, but after mounts and other misc. stuff you'll be way over $2500. Maybe save up some more cash then go for a B18?

If I were you I would find someone on here that is located near you that is selling an ls swap. you can probably pick it up for under a thousand and then get a b16 head and swap it on there. your friend will love the power. and can't forget vtec is sweet music to the ears.
