Brake Upgrades?
Hey guys, sorry, I did a search and got impatient from sifting through all the crap of 4 disc conversions or bigger rotors/brakes etc,etc,etc...
I basically have a stock EJ8 setup for my brakes. After going 80 mph and braking hard a couple times over the past week [i swear...this week was random-debris-on-the-*******-highway week!], Now I here my brakes going...I can hear a slight grind/squeak. But that was after braking hard, so I dunno. I think my inner disc or rear drum are gone. Anyways..my question.
I want to keep my wheels lightweight. I don't want to be adding a lot of lbs to my car. Do disc conversions hinder ur car that much? I was thinking what Kamin said a while ago, some nice rotors, fluid and pads should do me good.

Larger brakes can "slow you down" however, not by much at all.
Consider the fact that the 14" steel wheels that come standard on most Civics weight in at 18lbs each. You can more than make up for the larger brakes by getting lighter wheels.
Also, most 4 piston calipers are aluminum and therefore, light weight.
What do you want out of the car?

I like their 11.2" front brakes. But, also when you add larger brakes and calipers you have to consider the Master Cylinders as well as the proportioning valves.
A lot of magazines have added larger brakes to their project cars and actually increased the stopping distance because of improper brake proportioning.
Then again, some project cars have over performed in the brake test just by simply changing to a more aggressive brake pad. I.E. Skyline GTR Spec-V's have a well designed Brembo system to begin with and changing to a more aggressive pad drops the 60-0 by 25 feet!!!
Just food for thought.

Re: Brake Upgrades? (Spade)
some nice rotors, pads and fluid WILL do you just fine, there is really no point in doing a rear disc conversion except for the fact that pads are easier for people to change, and maybe because they look 'cooler' but someone actually weighed the setups and found the rear disc setup to be ~15 lbs heavier...they really wont stop your car any faster.. I'd just recommend brembo blanks (or any other OE style rotor) with some good pads - axxis ultimates are good for the street (there are several better pads, but i'm assuming this is a daily driven street car) and some fresh brake fluid should be all you need

Re: Brake Upgrades? (Quad-Damge)
look into the $350ish 11" setup for your car.
theres a sorta group buy in the best buys section.
it'll be 11" rotor
Integra calipers
adaptor bracket so u can use the civic hub.

Yep i think you answered your question in your post. Get some new rotors (Autozone), new pads ( Andie http://www.cobaltfriction.com ), and some decent sythetic blake fluid. Infact if you contact Andie at Cobalt he can set you up with everything you need.

Re: Brake Upgrades? (mantic6t9)
I guess I want it for future road racing/autoX, but I am looking for the ability to stop well. I don't care if they are loud, but I do care if they shake or might pose problems [like locking up...]

i would definitely give Andi @ Cobalt Friction a call. This guy is super nice and very knowledgeable. He will answer all your questions and give you great advice on pads, rotors, fluid, etc. Andi also sells rotors that don't cost much. They are better than the Autozone ones..

i'd recommend brembo blanks with either ate superblue or ate type 200 brake fluid. I'm running AEM pads right now and I've been happy with them.
