Default Bodyshop question: Replacing rear quarter panel, please help answer my questions

Hey, I might be buying a 93 Civic Si that has some drivers side quarter panel damage.

Someone backed into the quarter panel putting a nice sized dent in it.

It is going to need a new quarter panel I am guessing, I have a picture, I will post soon.

my question is, what is involved in replacing a quarter panel.

The cars color is teal, the paint isnt faded, but it is still old, looks good though. Will they be able to get it to match?

How much am I looking to spend?

Anyone know of people that do QUALITY work in Southern California for quarter panel replacement?

Getting the paint to match is very difficult. You may think the paint is not faded however, you would need to get next to a brand new 93 Civic to tell for sure. Chances are it has faded some. Considering the car has rust on it I would bet the paint is faded.

Expect about $400-$500/side IMO

This is on a 2000 but heres any input I can give.

When my quarter needed to be replaced the shop I took it to said the normal time on replacing the quarter takes 15 hours of labor. All the weatherstripping and rear window had to be removed. Shops charge 40-60+ an hour depending where you go. So you do the math and that is only the labor.

(He may have been lying to me so if your a body man please tell this guy and ME if this is wrong)

It would be hard to tell without pictures. Where is the dent located on the quarterpanel?

If it's not to bad, the dent should be able to be pulled out and smoothed with filler. Depending on how bad it is, it may require some cutting and welding.

my del sol got hit in the rear quarter. It is going to cost you a fortune to fix. the rear quarter goes all the way up to the roof and down to the door seam. This means they have to cut your old one out and weld a new one in then smooth all the welds and clean them up. This takes 15-20 hours in labor itself. Then with it being an older car when they paint it they will have to blend partially on the top, trunk, and drivers door. My damage totalled around $2300

as said above,it takes a few hours labor,as well as the actual parts and paint costs.
it will be hard to make it match perfectly-i have a feeling that particular color will be especially bad at showing the difference.
it's really up to you-it will already be a lot of money to fix the quarter, you can spend more and get the hwole car painted to match.
some pics of where exactly is damaged would help.
here's a pic of the various replacement panels available from Honda:

you'll pay around $400 for a whole quarter patch panel.
i would keep the cost of repairs in mind before buying the car.you could most likely find a better condition car for less than the price of this car and the repairs.

Did you ever get the panel fixed? What was the outcome?

I have turned down EG hatches due to messed up rear quarter panels. If your dent was pulled out can you post some pics of how it looks? What did it cost you?

My bro does paint / body, but I don't want him to be tied up with removing a large quarter panel dent for 10 hours.....

I never thought the rear quarter was the entire side of the car I never really looked at the panels good or considered a hatch when I see rear damage....

Dude this is the hardest repair from what I've heard, my friend works at a repair shop, and did one of these to a civic, it involves welding, nuff said. Sorry to hear about that man, I think you can order one from honda already painted, it costs a little more, but you can get it, I believe. I could be wrong.

Rear quarter panel r/r and new paint is VERY expensive. You're looking at an easy $2000 from a quality shop.

I had quarter panel and door damage from an accident (not my fault) and the bill was over $4000; this was 3 years ago.
