Is This Block Still Good?
Wasn't sure where to post it so I decided to post it sure since the motor is going to go in a del sol. Anyway, I have a chance to pick up a complete GSR shortblock. But the only thing that's wrong with it was that the head siezed because of oil starvation.
Can the block still be used? If you were to re-use the block what kind of damage would it have caused to the block? Or would it be best to just pass on the block and wait to pick up another one.

Lack of oil pressure is the worst thing that can happen to an engine.
If the head seized it's quite possible a rod bearing is spun as well. If not spun, damaged. I would pass on it.

Open up the oilpan ( or drain it if it hasnt already been) and look for metal specks and shards in it. That would indicate pretty bad wear and tear.
Generally, if any motor is considered to be "seized", its basically shot.

Thanks for the responses guys, I was going to use the block to do a full rebuild with new bearings, forged pistons, and rods. But if that's the case then I guess I'll have to pass up on this block also.

He's right, if it ate the caps that hold the cams in it's a good candidate for recycling.
