Default Bottom of block flaking?

upon tearing down a spare block i got ahold of, i noticed a few tiny tiny copperish flakes in my oil pan. very very thin and small but noticeable. upon inspecting the block further it looks like it may have come from the bottom of the block on the walls below the cylinders. the only evidence of it coming from there is that there are very tiny veinish lines on some of the walls down there, not deep cracks, just like surface hairlines.
how bad is this and what could have caused it? it looks to me like it could be a result of extreme heat but i'm not sure. other than this the block is perfect and measures out fine in every way. can anyone help me? this is the first block i'm gonna build by hand and i wanna get it right the first time. thanks

Those flakes are the block's bearings...The veins are casting marks that are normal to any casted metal...But, take a look at the crank journals and/or bearings for missing metal...

Sounds like you have or about to spin a bearing. Which is very bad obviously.

If you spun a main bearing the block is toast. If you spun a rod bearing your crank is toast. Sorry

No ****? If you spin a bearing you're going to mess up one or the other eh? Well I'll be damned, I never knew that.

What happens to the block/main journals when you spin a bearing?

The main journals are scarred, and some people think you can align bore, but this sets the crank higher in the case and misaligns the oil pump, putting unnecessary stress on it.

i'll check the crank and main journals tomorrow morning then. prob the main journal because i faintly remember checking the crank and it was fine. so the block and main caps should be scarred right?
it really did look like the flakes came from the walls around the crank though. i'll check again. i guess i'll look for another block just in case. thanks and keep em coming
