ok a stock b20 will stop making power around 5800 due to the compression ratio .... the head will not make the power but i have build a b20vtec and with it being built i only turned it 8500.....any other questions just ask...

theres 2 types of b20s a b20b in the usdm format is a 8.8 comp engine that makes max hp at 5400 a usdm b20z makes 146hp at 6200 with 9.6comp if you buy from a importer they are all b20b's just buy a 99 or newer jdm b20b they too are the 9.6comp eng most engines will start too lose too much hp 3-400 revs above max hp rpm. so in this case rev a b20b to 5800 and a b20z to 6500rpm and ur good.

i have a stockish b20b and i put my rev limit at 6k.....i didnt find ANY use for the motor to go over 6k.....besides death that is....LOL anyway just my $.02

oh and i usually shift at 5600-5800 and it pulls pretty hard for a stockerrrr lol and b20b makes 126hp* and i believe 96+ model was 146+ish correct me if im wrong im going to the dyno on friday!!!!!

Yeah, the motor isn't making power past 5500 or so, it's "geared" (figuratively, not literally) towards more torque, not more higher RPM power. Without a higher flowing head on it there's really no use in revving it past there if you're looking for fastest acceleration / ET trap.
