Yes it would work just like any other b series swap. Couple of problems. One very rare to find. Two get a new tranny. SI is a good choice. Positives are 1.7L, but on the flip side its only like 9.2:1 compression. Throw some CTR pistons and CTR cams (or skunks) in there killer set-up. Be more practiacl to just build a b16a. Cheaper, easier to find and no conversion or new tranny. Whatever you wanna do. If you got time and money I say go for it. It's cool to be different.
Later.

fond a good deal on a b17, all i need to do is upgrade the tranny. I think i could build it for cheaper than i could do the b16 swap.

I still miss it to this day. It was a fun motor.
Just some observations on the B17...
The B17A block is just like a B16A block, visually looks the same, same deck height etc, except with a B17A1 stamp on it. The internals are the other parts that make the difference as well: 1.7L crank, the rods are shorter than B16A rods, and the pistons...well are a joke..they're flat top pistons.....no dome at all. But in contrast to an 89-91 b16a, its kinda kewl how the B17A makes 160hp with the compression ratio of 9.7.1 it has, and yet the 89-91 b16a w/ 10.2 compression ratio and being 1.6L makes 160hp also.
All ya gotta do is put some b16a or higher compression pistons (CTR's work great!), in a B17A and it'll up the HP almost by 10 ponies (with ctr's that is).
The block will bolt into any EF chassis (using some kinda bolt in kit) or 92-01 civic using 94+ integra mounts. There's nothing different about the way it mounts either. Just get the correct mounts for your chassis and your set.
Trannywise, if you own an EG/DC/EK, just pick up a Hydro B-series (B16A or Type-R suggested) tranny and complete 94+ clutch w/flywheel and mate it all together and you'll be set.. (I suggest a lightened f.wheel too....lovely lovely throttle response).
The B17A engine is actually the OG GS-R engine. Then when 94 rolled over, the 1.8L GSR motor came out....
high compression B17A =

Just a quick DIY, the 92-93 GS-R's were available with the tightest geared tranny ever offered in a USDM B-series equipped car (.88 5th gear)... yes, tighter than the Si and ITR
