Default B16a2/P30: What performance effects are caused by a disconnected knock Sensor?

Im trying to fix my car so its running 100% i have a 99 civic si motor in my car and a p30 ecu check engine light is on and i know the reason is because knock sensor is not hooked up. I bought the car like this. So my question is after reading up alot on it is that it could cause ur car to lose HP, Torque, and also cause vtec to not hit or not hit as hard as it could if it was to be hooked up. Is this correct?

Easy note i know its easy to install just 1 wire to the D connector to port 3 on the ecu really simple

Thanks for your help to whome replys

Pull the CEL code because an OBDI P30 should not look for a knock sensor.

^^ 99si ron its an obd2 p30.

it might put itself in limp mode but you wouldn't hit vtec at all.
or it'll retard the timing since it see's no knock signal so to prevent even the possibility of damage it slows it down.
i could list off tons of possibilities but get it hooked up and runnin then see if it still doesn't run like it should.

I am not 100% sure but I think p30's do search for knock sensor, in fact I think all b series ecu's do
I seen all b series vtec blocks provided with it, but then again I could be wrong

OBD1 P30s look for a knock sensor. All B-series Vtec ECUs do. Non-vtec ECUs don't look for a knock sensor though.

As far as performance effects, vtec wont engage.

Further side note, '99 - '00 Sis didn't use a P30, they used a P2T. '94 - '97 Del Sol Vtecs used a P30 as did JDM B16A equipped Civics and Integras (JDM '91 - '92 Integras I believed used an OBD1 PR3 ECU, earlier models were used an OBD0 PR3, remember that in Japan these years are 1 behind us)

Well it depends the market of the engine, i saw some EDM obd0-1 b16 without it!

That been said, i know that usualy the people disable it but if we want to stick with it, were can i find a more reliable one, since the oem one are to sensitive?

You beat me to it....i was just going to say, a number of edm vtec ecu's do not look for a knock signal, but don't which do and which don't

I'd forgotten about Euro ECUs, Euro PW0s don't look for a knock sensor, i'm not sure what else doesn't. Euro ECUs are weird though.

^^This is why I wasn't 100% sure, I knew there are different setups even without Vtec pressure switches

i gotta 99 si motor in a 95 civic and obd 1 jumper harness so i could use a p30. Engine light is on doesnt cut on till car is driving when it has time to detect no knock sensor.
