B16a2 99 Si -- Crispy valves? or clean and move on

What is an acceptable method for opening the valve without removing them or the retainers?
I realize I could easily slap the cam's back in and spin it manually, but I'd prefer not to do that just yet.

clean it up and it will be fine?
I honestly used a scrubbing pad from my house to clean some gunk off of a 190k d series that I opened up to replace a HG. you dont have to disassemble the head. Once you put the motor back together, run techron though it and try to use chevron gas (if its available). Techron really works, it cleans and keeps the engine clean if you run chevron.

Did you strip it of parts? or deliver a mostly assembled head?
I guess I should be asking them that, not you
**Edit** Called, they can clean / deck with valves/rockers still in, score!
