B16A1 (sir1) b16a2 (sir2) comparison and compatibility
i would like to know the minor/major differences in the first gen b16 and the second gen. ive looked at many comparisons of the two both same compression at 10:4:1 and 1600cc displacement(redlines also the same) there is a minor difference in power 160hp@7600 / 111lb-ft@7000 compared to 168@7800 / 116lb-ft@7300. i am interested in doing one of the two swaps in my 92 eg hatch i have had a b18c1 93 eg hatch before this car. i am also interested in compatibility issues if any between the two motors in my particular application. i dont want to spend an extra thousand on the b16a2 if theres not that big of a difference. any help is appreciated. thank you.

funny topic. I am in the same boat as you. I had a 94 hatch with a b18c1 and now I have a 92 CX that I wanna slap a B16 in.
my advice to you is to get a 92-95 b16. the tranny will be hydro and you can use most if not all of the sensors and misc bs and you wouldn't have to worry about hunting down parts.

Searching will provide you with all the answers that you need.
things to consider
The first gen wil be 12-16 years old while the second gen will be 8-12 years old. The second gen will have less miles ( i dont care if they Claim 30k miles, show me a 16 yo engine with only 30k)
The second gen has 10.4:1 compression while the 1st gen has 10.2:1.
The first gen comes with a cable tranny, while the second gen uses a hydrolic tranny (which you need).
You will find many threads pertaining to this topic if you do a search

Thanks Just checking to see if you actually were going to look.
Actually I didn't read them (except the last on, it has a link for you check) I just grabbed the ones that said b16a1 vs b16a2. etc.... there were a ton of them, just type it in and away you go into b16a land.
