I'll be nice and provide you with info even though this topic has been covered countless times here.
I've owned both a B16A2 and a B18C1 swap in two 1992 Si hatches at the same time. My wife drove the B16A2 hatch; I drove the B18C1 hatch.
Dyno day - both engines had i/h/e, but the B16A2 had a chipped P28 ECU to help it a touch:
B18C1 - 150whp/122ft-lbs. of torque
B16A2 - 143whp/102ft-lbs. of torque
Note the huge torque difference. also the whp difference may not look that big at "only" 7whp, but that's PEAK power. the B18C1 makes more power throughout the entire rpm range.
When running the cars the GS-R outpulled the B16A every time, hands down. It's about a 2-3 car length difference.
Bottom line?
IMO, from personal head-to-head experience get the GS-R swap. It has more usuable power, and even though it's a touch more expensive it's well worth it IMO.

What the fuuck are you talking about?
If anything everyone and their grandmother's grandson has a first-gen B16A in his Civic, and besides why do you want to downgrade engines even *IF* everyone had a B18C engine in his car?
I'm sorry it just defies logic as to why, if one could afford either, anyone would rather have 20 less ft-lbs. of torque and less whp under the entire powerband just for the sake of being "different" even when you're absolutely wrong anyways about everyone having a B18C these days.
Oh and one more thing - ***NEWSFLASH*** - we drive Hondas. There is absolutely nothing original about them any more, no matter what engine, color, wheels, interior, etc. It's all been done bro!

Okay my bad for going apeshit, but here's my point:
If you have an opinion that's awesome, and by all means please share it. The thing is that when an opinion is supported by illogical reasoning I'm going to say something.
Again there is nothing original when it comes to Hondas, so trying to base an engine choice on who has how many of them is just illogical. To even take a slower engine swap just for the sake of trying to be different is also illogical.
If we're going for different why not grab yourself D15 engine and build the **** out of it - after all, everyone is doing swaps these days.
If you're going for best bang for the buck what price difference are you looking at between the B16A and B18C1? Now take that price difference and realize you'll never get that extra 20 ft-lbs. of torque (that the GS-R engine already has stock) out of that B16A with that small of a difference in prices, and you'll never get it N/A unless it is bored or stroked out to 1.8L anyways.
:D
