Default *If you have a B16 Powerd EG Hatch post here!*

i currently have a 94 cx hatch, im planning to do a motor swap but since im in a budget i cant go GSR ive decided to possibly go with a JDM B16A...before i do anything i want to know how do you like your b16? are you happy with it? do you regret buying it?....i plan to use the hatch as a little of both as in daily driving and track use. Also i plan to upgrade the Cams, intake, headers, exhaust and possibly a intake manifold and Throttle body. But first i want to see how everyone feels about thier b16.
Thanks in advance

I loved the B16A2 1992 Si hatch I used to own. Drove it for 5 years with zero issues, but I also did the swap myself and did everything the right way.
compared to the GS-R and ITR swaps I've had/have the B16A was down on power and torque, but it was great nontheless.

If it's a question of money then maybe save up some more and get a GS-R if it's at all possible.

I dyno'd my B16A2, B18C1, and B18C5 swaps:

B16A2 - 143whp/102ft-lbs

B18C1 - 150whp/122ft-lbs

B18C5 - 178whp/130ft-lbs

All engines had similiar mods, yet the B16A2 was definately at a torque handicap. I owned a B18C1 1992 Si at the same time as the B16A2 Si and when running both side to side the GS-R would walk on the B16A2 every time, quite handily. the thing about the 1.8 is that you don't have to drop that extra gear to wring the **** out of the engine to get it to pull like you do the B16A2.

The B16A2 pulled great, but only above 6200rpm and up whereas the GS-R B18C1 pulled nicely from 4500rpm-up. The Type R is all its own, but it's also more costly.

I mean you'll spend more money trying tp upgrade that B16A with cams, IM, TB, etc. etc. and it will never have the torque that the 1.8L offers. Sounds to me like you may want to save the extra cash and get a GS-R swap first.

i never owned a b16 swapped eg but i done b16 swaps into egs. its a fun motor but you have to rev the **** outta it to make power. you can do a LS swap now for under 1500. i have a LS swap in my coupe and i like it. its just a daily driver. if you have the money, i'd say save up and buy a GSR

You get a lot more for your money with a turbocharged D16Z6. I've done many B16 swaps and I must say it's my least favorite Honda motor. No torque (even compared to the Z6), too-tall gearing to make up for the lack of torque and more expensive than a 180whp/tq d-series turbo setup. No thank you.

If you're on a budget, you shouldn't be modifying your car.

i have a cx hatch with a b16a swap and it is alot of fun,was a bit lacking on torque until i put a small turbo on it,torque is good but if you dont have good suspension, tires, and engine mounts then it sucks(wheel hop).i dont regret my purchase but if i were you i would save for more displacement,i already plan on getting a b20 and eventually swapping that in,good luck either way

It isnt in hatch but in del sol i like it but mine has been a hassle because it was poorly cared for by the previous owner.

I have an eg with a JDM B16A and love it. Perfect for a daily and road racing. Not the best for drag but do people even do that anymore?
Get the B16, you can beat on that motor all day and it be fine.

ive got a 94 si. i ripped out the **** z6 that was in it and put in a sir2 b16a w/ lsd tranny. freakin night and day difference. put on all the bolt ons and run circles around most na. 50 shot of nitrous will take care of most stock turbocharged d16's.now i got it boosted and i love it. from me. and it looks good on paper too, at least in nc, since my car came w/ a 1.6 and it still has a 1.6. good luck.

Really? i remember someone said once that a b16 feels like a d-series but then someone else said that thier b16 is wayy better then a d16z6, you also said that its a big differene then ur d-series....im guessing the kids b16 was probably not running right or somthing was wrong with it.

Nahh I herd way too many stories about h22's blowing up like crazy, I herd they are the most unreliable motors around.

Well you obviously heard wrong cause h22 are just as reliable as b16 or any other honda motor as long as there maintained correctly.

i have a b16a also. i hate to say it but i dont like it. it has no torque, the only thing that keeps you close in races is the 8200 rpm redline. a friend of mine has an ls with a gsr lsd tranny. it walks all over the b16. when he had the ls tranny on there he was runnning 14.7 1/4 mile times on a stock motor in a 94 hatch. i'm keeping my b16 to turbo so i'll let you know how it is after that if it doesnt blow up. the head gasket is leaking so i got smoke just pouring out of my exhaust. so it makes me mad. just my .02

I've driven a lightly modified '00 Si and my GS-R swapped EG (I know there are weight differences), but I was NOT impressed with the B16 at all.

If I was to spend the money on the swap, I'd wait and pay the extra for that .2 liters of displacement because it makes a difference.

EDIT: The only way I'd keep a B16 is if it was already installed and running properly in a car...then boost it
