Default b16a1 into 97 civic -NEED HELP!

My friend is swapping a b16a1 into his 97 civic ex and it wont start! it turns over and pops like it wants to start, but it wont actually start. The guy who is doing the swap just ordered a custom wiring harness just for this application and we were wondering if it would make it start, or do we need to get new ecu or just get a sir2 motor and start over? the b16a1 is already mounted and the transmission is already hooked up. someone said the swap wont work because it is an OBD0 motor into an OBD2 car. Please help, the shop has had his car for three months!

You need to get a different ecu from an OBD1 honda. Like a integra gsr or a del sol vtec. I think. Dont quote me on it.

I think he is using the ecu that came with the b16a1,will that work? Someone said that we need a grey plug ECU, what would that be from? Is there any other issues, like converting from an OBD2 car to an OBD0 engine, that we need to know about with this swap? thanx for any help in advance.

just convert to obd1. the 96-97 civics have a different ecu plug than the 99-00 so you can't use the 99-00 si ecu. purchase an obd 2 to 1 harness and a obd1 ecu, and you're on your way.

What is all involved in converting an OBD0 to OBD1? I have a B16A1 sitting in the basement and I want to stick it in my 92 sedan. What is all involved in changing it over? What parts are needed and where do you get them?

I’ve been told a billion different answers on this one.

Thanks

well, since the car(97 civic) is obd2, you would be converting from obd 2 to obd 1. doesn't matter what the motor is. it's all electrical. so you wouldn't be covnerting from obd0 to obd1 unless you drove like a 90-93 teg.

now, as for the 92 civic, it is already obd 1, so you will not need to do anything to it but wire up the oil and vtec wires on the harness. you can go with a stock p72 ecu or get a chipped p28, either will work with the oem harness. you can use the obd0 alternator and starter with your harness. if you need one that's guaranteed to work, i've got both. you'll need a male b series intermediate shaft and 94-01 teg axles, no abs. you will also need 94-01 teg motor mounts. if you're keeping the cable tranny, then you'll need to invest in a hasport cable to hydro conversion kit.

Does he need another ecu other than the one that came with the engine? if it needs to be changed, what car could we find a compatible one in and how much should it cost?

id say rewire the whole car using the stock obd2 wire harness. get obd2 injectors obd2 distributor. obd1 jumper harness and obd1 chipped p28. also might consider chaning the intake manifold out cause i believe the obd-0 IM on the b16a1 is missing some sensors like the map and tps cause its mounted on the firewall of the EF's

has anybody ever even done this swap? if so, what did they do to get it wired up?
also, what is a chipped p28 ecu and what car can we find one in?
what do you think is the easiest (and cheapest) way to get this thing running?
