B16A swap Help required!
Hi all,
Did a search but i didn't find anything that would answer my questions.
My EG hatch already has a 1.6L DOHC non vtec. But i'm sure the engine mounts on the B series block are different.
If i have the engine (B16A), gearbox and ECU. What else do i need in order for the swap to be complete?
I know I'll need a new wiring loom, what else?
Do i need any of the following?
CV joints?
Shaft?
radiator?
anything?
Isit a straight forward swap? more info would be great!
Thanks

Re: B16A swap Help required! (Mugen_R)
I am going off memory ...which is shaky at best : 0
The FIRST thing you need is the Honda/HELMS service manual for you car and for the Donor engines car
I assume that the B16 is a second gen(OBD1) with a hydro tranny ??? ... if so then the B16 Left and right upper intermediate mounts work, the only one you really need to make sure you get is the EG DOHC rear lower tranny mount. The two lower mounts will be the EG ones.
-You need the B16 engine wiring harness and ECU
-DOHC Axels (left, right and intermediate)
-B series / Integra shift linkages
-DOHC EG Rad hoses
-EG DOHC AC bracket (If you have AC)
-You should upgrade to a EG DOHC rad(double core half width) or Integra Rad(single core full width) ... as the new engine needs more cooling than the stock rad can provide
Other things you should do but do not need to do when you swap, as you may not know the condition maintence history of the engine
-New OEM timing belt and waterpump
-New OEM fuel filter, oil filter
-4L engine oil, 2L tranny fluid, 4L Coolant
Check the condition of the Clutch, Flywheel, throw-out bearing and Presure plate, it is a good time to replace or upgrade.
Check the condition of the various oil seals (Tranny/axels, crank/flywheel, crank/water pump side, Oil-pan gasket, valve cover gasket) If they look wet or that they may be leaking, it is often easy to replace them with the engine out of the car
Check the condition of the various engine mounts and rubber bushings, it may be time to replace them with OEM or Urethane versions
Wireing Harness, you may have to add a couple of wires ..it depends on the harness you get/have (VTEC etc)
Go here for more info that my feeble brain probably missed http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/
Good luck
