b16a struggling in vtec.
I have bought a 99 civic coupe with a b16a conversion off a friend of mine. The car wont pull right in vtec. In fact its a very lame engine full stop. It doesnt seem to want to get to vtec quickly either. I have changed the feul pump to a sir pump, new feul filter, plugs, knock sensor, and gave it an engine flush and feul flush and changed the oil and filter today. The few bits iv done hace made somewhat a difference, but my problems no intermittent. Best way to describe the vtec is like a dog on a leash trying to run.... any suggestions? Im planning on changing the dizzy cap and leads tomorrow. Oh its also running on a b16b ecu.

don't expect to much out of a old 1.6L engine...but compression test is you best bet right now dry and wet post the numbers once you have done so.

A friend of mine had this problem b4, where vtec was not engaging properly due to low oil pressure, if I remember correctly his fix was a rubber o ring was worn on the middle cam cap, allowing oil pressure to leak, remove the middle cam cap and inspect the o ring it's worth a shot it fix his vtec problems and cost nothing cheers good luck

What fuel feed line and fuel rail are you using? Was it difficult to line the tabs on the fuel rail side? An improper feed line/rail combination causes the issue you're experiencing
