Default 00 Civic EX - engine won't start

I've been lurking here for awhile getting answers from Google searches so I'd like to thank you all for being so informative. I've now got a rash of problems with my 2000 (1.5L) that I cannot seem to pinpoint and was hoping for some feed back. When I bought the car two years ago I had gotten the famous P0420 fault which I assumed wouldn't clear because the person I bought the car from had it replaced at an aftermarket place. So I bought the car from her assuming there were no other problems. The car has driven great for the most part, I average about 30MPG which is twice what I average in my F150. So lately the car has started to stall, when it restarts it smells heavily of gas (even backfired once). I did some searches here and based on the problems I was having I attributed the problems to somewhere related to the spark. I replaced the plugs, rotor, wires and cap and all seemed to be fine. Then it quit starting altogether, turns over just fine but will not start. I also got the following codes before I reset the OBDII after replacing the spark parts:

P0108
P1359
P0420
and P1457

Any advice would be most appreciated.

The 1359 is the crank position sensor which is probably causing it not to start.

Stock 00 Civic? What trim?

After resetting the ECU, did all 4 codes return after cranking the engine?

Yes stock Civic EX, none of the codes came back up after I cranked the engine. It actually ran fine for a day then would not restart.

Okay, no CEL codes

Listen for whether the fuel pump primes and whether there is bright white spark at all 4 spark plugs.

Also check the mechanical timing of the engine.

Thanks RonJ, I think you helped me figure it out. Tried to get spark and got nothing so the only thing left to replace (easily) was the coil. Swapped it out with a new one and it started right up. Drove it into work today with (knock on wood) no issues.
