b16 transmission gear ratios?

b16 transmission gear ratios?
i'll get to the point first, i used this gear calc spreadsheet from club si, and according to that, a b16 transmission should go from 8200 to 5300rpm on the 1-2 shift, but b16's hit vtec at 5800, so won't it fall out of vtec? btw that calculation was done with 205 50 15 tires
reason i ask is because a buddy of mine bought a civic with a b16a, but the trans that came in the car is a y80, which has to be from the jdm b18c or an integra LS, we determined from the gear ratios that its a b18c trans, only problem is it falls out of vtec on the 1-2 shift which makes sense because it the 1-2 shift takes it from 8200 rpm to 4800rpm, but the b16 trans goes to 5300, so wouldn't it fall out of vtec too? is it worth getting a b16 transmission?
